Don’t have a high school diploma?
Clatsop Community College can assist you in obtaining the equivalent to a high school diploma—the GED®—which will enable you to pursue further education, improve your employment status, or fulfill a personal goal.
The GED is a battery of four tests (Tests of General Educational Development) that when passed, serves as an equivalent to a high school diploma.
It is accepted by 98% of colleges and universities that require a high school diploma as well as 96% of companies whose jobs require a high school degree. About 20 million people have earned a GED since its inception.

The four tests that make up the GED®:

You must be at least 16 years old in order to take the GED classes or tests. If you are under 18, you must provide “Option Papers” or a “Release from Compulsory Education” from your high school before attending classes or taking the GED® Tests. You will also need to fill out this GED under 18 form
You are never too old to get your GED®!
We have had students in their 60s and even 70s earn their GED. There is no age limit on the desire to learn!

Take a CASAS assessment
o Sign up for an in-person or remote assessment
o Complete your assessment (2 hours)

Create a GED.com account
Step 4
Attend GED classes
o Communicate with your instructor about your individual plan
o Sign up for an in-person or remote assessment & complete assessments as directed by your instructor
Step 5
Take a GED practice test
o Ask your instructor if you are ready to take a practice test
o Take the practice test & share your scores with your instructor
Step 6
Take the GED subject test
o Schedule your official GED subject test through your GED.com account
o Contact your coordinator or instructor for a voucher
o Take the GED subject test

Clatsop Community College’s GED preparation classes are held at the main campus in Astoria, at the South County Center in Seaside, at Clatskanie High School, and remotely through Zoom due to COVID. Our GED classes are a combination of small group discussions with much individualized, one on one instruction. We strive to make the learning environment as comfortable as possible.

The length of time varies from student to student. It depends on the skills and knowledge you have when you start, how much time you have for classes and studying, and your commitment to earning your GED. If you want your GED, we are here to help make it happen.
Some Tips for Success
- Set up your voicemail and check your email regularly
- Connect with your instructor – we want you to succeed!
- Schedule a time for homework each week
- Let us know when you need help
GED tests MUST be taken at an official GED Testing Center. Clatsop Community College is an official GED Test Site. Tests are given in the Testing Center, Columbia Hall, Room 110.

The current fee for the battery of GED Tests is $152.
Financial Aid
There is a limited amount of assistance for students currently enrolled in the GED Program. Some agencies provide assistance in paying for the GED. If you are a client of an agency, check with them for possible assistance.
Yes. Currently, we hold an informal GED® Graduation in June of each year for the past year’s GED® graduates. Family and friends are encouraged to attend to help celebrate your achievement.
Adult Basic Skills
Clatsop Community College offers Adult Basic Education (ABE) instruction for students who wish to improve their basic reading, writing, and math skills. Students attend these classes for a variety of reasons, to increase workplace skills and fulfill a desire to raise their personal educational level.
Our vision is to serve as an effective resource for the community that responds to the educational and career needs of our community.
The mission of ABE department at CCC is to provide residents of Clatsop County with effective GED preparation, English language acquisition and basic skills learning opportunities. Our goal is to empower students to improve literacy skills, enter college and/or training, and acquire needed knowledge and skills to become successful learners, workers, family and community members.
