A growing number of students at Clatsop Community College are facing food and housing insecurities and the CCC Foundation has taken an active approach to respond to our students’ ongoing economic struggles and the profound impact of COVID-19 on our students and their families. This past month the Foundation hosted an online donation event, “Todays Need, Tomorrow’s Success- A benefit for student needs” in lieu of the annual Arts and Experiences Dinner and Auction which had to be cancelled due to COVID-19. Sponsors for the cancelled Foundation event graciously allowed them to use their contributions as a starting point to raise funds and the goal was set to raise $30,000 to match the sponsorship money.
The Foundation members reached out through emails, phone calls, and sent virtual messages across the region to gather support for our area college students. Through their efforts they were able to shatter their goal and raised over $55,000.
Fort George Brewery also reached out to the Foundation and offered for the college to partner with them on one of their Benefit Nights. On July 28th, 10% of all profits on to-go and in-house orders were donated to the cause as well. Through the benefit night, Fort George Brewery donated $914 to add to the aid for students.
With sponsorships, donations, and the benefit night added all together, our community donated over $87,000 for college students.
Donations will go toward student scholarships and student emergency funds to cover costs associated with food, housing, medical expenses, and transportation. $7,000 of the money raised has also been designated to help start a food pantry at the CCC Lexington Campus location which is planned to open Fall Term of 2020.
While the formal campaign may be wrapped up, student need is ongoing. If you would like to donate or to learn more about the Clatsop Community College Foundation, visit www.clatsopcc.edu/foundation or contact CCC Foundation Director, Angee Hunt, at 503-338-2306.
