CCC’s Julia Mabry presents “Come to Your Senses: Practical Mindfulness for Turbulent Times” for Nov. 5th Ales and Ideas

Clatsop Community College and the Fort George Brewery + Public House are pleased to announce the November event in the 2020-21 Ales & Ideas lecture series—broadcast from the Lovell Showroom via Facebook LIVE.  On Thursday, November 5, 7pm CCC Yoga Instructor Julia Mabry will present Come to Your Senses: Practical Mindfulness for Turbulent Times.

Come to your senses: fill the mind with the present! Practical mindfulness does not have to start with a meditation retreat in the mountains of Tibet. During this interactive presentation, participants will explore ways to invite their attention to everyday experiences in the environment while delighting in truly amazing qualities of the human body. Filling the mind with the present moment through finely tuned attention to sensations and movements is a cornerstone of yoga pose practice. But those craving the renewal of presence need not step foot into a yoga studio; playful approaches to mindfulness are available to anyone—no chanting or spandex required.  Join Julia and neighbors to explore human consciousness, learn about amazing feats the brain accomplishes to create reality, and marvel in the truth that we humans are indeed conscious.  As Julia says, “The body is full of wonder if we remember to look for it.”

Although Fort George cannot host live audience members at this event, anyone with a computer, pad, or smartphone is welcome to find their way to www.facebook.com/fortgeorgebrewery  The event will go live by 6:45 p.m., and the formal presentation will begin promptly at 7:00 p.m.  Virtual participants will enjoy a live multimedia slide presentation plus a Q&A opportunity to pose questions of speakers through a monitored Facebook comments section. To order Fort George food and beverage for pick-up, visit https://www.fortgeorgetogo.comoand be sure to thank the good folks at our local Public House for continuing free community lectures—now with a virtual twist.

Julia Mabry, MS, MPH, RYT 500, is an adjunct faculty at Clatsop Community College, where she teaches yoga, life sciences, and for the Lives in Transitions program. A high school dropout who grew up in the big city of Berlin, Julia transplanted herself into the deserted American Southwest to study ecology and outdoor education. She earned her Master of Science in Fisheries in Alaska before settling in Astoria in 1999. In 2016, she earned her Master of Public Health in Community Health Education from San Jose State University. Julia has worked as a research associate for OHSU, a paramedic, a director of a non-profit serving foster youth, a freelance writer, and now an educator teaching in the classroom and online.  Julia is especially passionate about the power of yoga to heal body and mind, encouraging students to discover and embrace their unique bodies.
