Certification & USCG Licensing

Clatsop offers certification and re-certification classes designed to meet the needs and schedule of the working mariner. Most of our classes are taught in a one-week format and classes are accredited by the USCG to meet training and credentialing requirements.

The College’s USCG Credential Training Program is approved to satisfy federal maritime requirements. The approval allows students to complete the Training Program in lieu of U.S. Coast Guard testing for the following licenses:

  1. Master/Mate 200 Gross Tons – Near Coastal/Inland Waters.
  2. Master/Mate 100 Gross Tons – Near Coastal/Inland Waters.
  3. Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels.
  4. Able Bodied Seaman (Special, Limited or Unlimited)

Astoria is a true maritime town, and many of our students come from across the country to take their certification classes from Clatsop Community College. For those traveling to Astoria, there are many reasonable lodging options within a few miles of our campus. We can help connect you to these resources if needed.
