Six students won Foundation Information Literacy Awards this year. Two students shared the general prize and will each receive $300. Desiree Hickey’s park proposal for Dr. Julie Brown’s WR 227 class, Splashpad for Astoria, was recognized for sophisticated integration of source material and detailed data analysis, while Jamie Swick’s King Tides: The Quiet Ruler of Rising Seas, a project for Julia Mabry’s BI 101 class, deftly pulled from wide ranging research in a compelling, lyrical essay.
Nursing students won three awards this year. Maddy Brown & Nonique Mangune won for their shared project in Devon Weaver’s NRS 111 class, Care Across Cultures: The Farewell, and will each receive $100. Brittany L. Desiree Hickey is about to graduate with an Associate of Applied Science degree in Accounting from Clatsop Community College. She will transfer to Upper Iowa University for a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and plans to pursue a Master of Accounting degree. Jamie Swick (not pictured) is a sophomore graduating with an Associate of Arts Oregon Transfer degree, who will continue into a Bachelor of Arts this fall, majoring in cultural anthropology with a minor in writing. With a background in the arts, she hopes to combine her studies of identity formation through ethnobotanical relationships with visual ethnographies in undergraduate research before pursuing a PhD in the same field.
Maddy Brown has accepted a position in the Intensive Care Unit at Providence Seaside Hospital and hopes to become a CRNA in the future.
Brittany Kelly is a second-year nursing student who will be graduating in about a week with an Associate of Applied Science in Nursing. Brittany’s educational and career goals and plans for the future include working as a registered nurse at Columbia Memorial Hospital and working toward a Bachelor degree. Brittany is excited to start a nursing career which serves the local community.

Whit Sullivan’s career and educational goals are to graduate from the CCC nursing program in June and then work locally as an RN while pursuing a BSN through OHSU. “I found my passion
of caring for patients in the emergency room and am eager to further my education and skills in that department by obtaining specialty certifications and learning from experienced nurses.”
