Clatsop Community College is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. Accreditation of an institution of higher education by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities indicates that it meets or exceeds criteria for the assessment of institutional quality evaluated through a peer review process. An accredited college or university is one which has available the necessary resources to achieve its stated purposes through appropriate educational programs, is substantially doing so, and gives reasonable evidence that it will continue to do so in the foreseeable future. Institutional integrity is also addressed through accreditation. Accreditation by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities is not partial but applies to the institution as a whole. As such, it is not a guarantee of every course or program offered, or the competence of individual graduates. Rather, it provides reasonable assurance about the quality of opportunities available to students who attend the institution. Inquiries regarding Clatsop Community College’s accredited status by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities should be directed to Teena Toyas, Accreditation Liaison Officer, ttoyas@clatsopcc.edu. Clatsop Community College is scheduled for a site visit by The Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) in conjunction with a comprehensive evaluation during its Year Seven Self-Study accreditation process. The visit will take place October 21-23, 2019.
The Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) explains that institutional self-studies are a part of “an ongoing process to understand, evaluate, and improve quality and effectiveness.” The goal of the process is to provide an evaluation of the overall quality of Clatsop’s educational programs with a specific focus on student learning outcomes.
Clatsop Community College has been accredited continuously by NWCCU since 1965, having most recently reaffirmed in 2011.
As part of the process, comments from the public are invited and considered with regard to Clatsop’s qualification for accreditation. Signed, written public comments should be submitted to NWCCU and will be forwarded, as received, to the institution, the evaluation committee, and the Commission. Comments are due to the Commission no later than September 20, 2019.
