Annual CCC Art Student Show Opens May 16th

Clatsop Community College Art Department is pleased to announce the grand finale of the year, the 2024 Annual Art Student Show, on exhibit in the Royal Nebeker Gallery from May 16 to June 7, 2024. The opening reception will be held on May 16 at 6 pm. Join us in celebrating our art students’ accomplishments at this event, which features a presentation of cash prizes and awards, along with a special talk by this year’s juror.

The  CCC Art Student Show will feature a juried selection of artworks created by art students over the past two years in courses such as graphic design, basic design, drawing, painting, ceramics, photography, and printmaking. The art faculty includes Ben Rosenberg (Printmaking), David Homer (Photography and Graphic Design), Brad Menninga (Ceramics), and Kristin Shauck (Drawing, Painting, and Basic Design).

This year’s juror, Elise Wagner, has recently relocated to Astoria from Portland. She is a highly respected painter, printmaker, educator, and innovator whose work explores the intersections of art, science, and technology—drawing inspiration from physics, astronomy, geology, cartography, and meteorology. Elise has earned numerous accolades for her contributions to art, including the prestigious Pollock Krasner Foundation Award for 2015-16, various regional awards, and grants from organizations like the Ford Family Foundation, the Oregon Arts Commission, and the Regional Arts & Culture Council. Her recent exhibitions include a solo show at Frederick Holmes & Company in Seattle and group shows at Alex Ferrone Gallery in New York and Imogen Gallery in Astoria.

The 2024 Art Student Show offers an immersive and visually engaging showcase of student talent, selected by Elise’s unique perspective and discerning eye. Visitors can expect to experience a diverse range of compelling artworks that reflect the distinct vision and skill of our student artists. We look forward to welcoming the community to the Royal Nebeker Gallery to share in this celebration of artistic expression and student achievement.
