The Clatsop Community College Board of Education conferred a rare honor to the faculty and staff of CCC by presenting them with the Spirit of Clatsop Award at the March 2021 board meeting. The Spirit of Clatsop award is the highest honor bestowed by the College upon an individual or organization in recognition of outstanding sustained support for the College and its mission.
CCC Board of Education Chair Robert Duehmig stated, “When Clatsop Community College closed on March 20, 2020, no one understood just what the impact would be. At a time of such uncertainty, CCC staff and faculty stepped up, moved classes online, worked from home, came in when necessary, operated classes in person when necessary. They really showed what CCC was all about- the students and our community. They truly deserve this award.”
The Board presented a plaque to the CCC faculty and staff which will be displayed in the community room at the college. The plaque is engraved to them and the message reads “For your Outstanding and Sustained Support for CCC and our Students During the COVID-19 Pandemic”.
The Spirit of Clatsop Award is not given out yearly and only reserved for instances where the Board wants to recognize something extraordinary. To be eligible for the award, individuals or organizations must have demonstrated a deep commitment, over time, to the College, its students, programs and/or overall mission. The last time the award was given was in 2013.
