CCC Seeks Volunteers for Tutoring

Clatsop Community College is calling on the local community to join its efforts in promoting literacy and education by becoming volunteers for the Literacy Tutor program. The Literacy Tutor program at Clatsop Community College focuses on assisting adult students in areas such as English as a Second Language, reading, math, and writing. This diverse group of students includes immigrants seeking to improve their language skills, as well as native English speakers aiming to enhance their proficiency. Volunteers will be making a weekly commitment of 1-3 hours, providing invaluable support to students on their educational journey.

Training is provided for interested people to offer support in becoming a volunteer. The training will concentrate on essential listening skills and effective strategies for teaching second language learners. Whether in-person or through Zoom, volunteers will have the flexibility to choose their preferred mode of tutoring.

Who Can Volunteer:

No language proficiency other than English is required to become a Literacy Tutor. The college is looking for individuals who are patient, excellent listeners, and understand that every student learns differently. Particularly, there is a critical need for volunteers to assist beginning English learners.
