GED Graduation Celebrates Success

Clatsop Community College’s 2018 GED Graduation will honor 35+ students at a ceremony on Monday, June 10th at 6 p.m. in the Columbia Hall Community Room (Columbia 219), 1651 Lexington Avenue, Astoria. The ceremony recognizes students who passed the GED® exam and earned a high school equivalent credential during the past year.

A reception for graduates and their families will be held in the GED® classroom on the first floor of Columbia Hall (Columbia 114) immediately following the ceremony. The public is invited to join in congratulating each of this year’s graduates.

The GED® credential is accepted by over 97% of colleges and employers. Nationally, 60% of recent GED® graduates are enrolled in college, and the unemployment rate is lower for those with a diploma.

The GED® tests are now all computer-based. The four subject areas of testing are: Reasoning through Language Arts (combining reading and writing), Social Studies, Science and Mathematical Reasoning.

Clatsop Community College is the sole provider of GED® preparation classes in Clatsop County. To take the GED®, students must be at least 16 years old, and if under 18, must provide “Option Papers” or a “Release from Compulsory Education” from their high school.

Clatsop Community College’s GED® preparation classes are held at the Lexington campus in Astoria, at the South County Center in Seaside, and at Clatskanie High School. Classes are offered in English and Spanish. Limited financial assistance with GED® test expenses is available.
